REPLICA

Real coin or replica?

Eloi Pernet's dreamcoins were originally created with real coins.

A french silver Ecu or semeuse, split and moved into a new pocket knife, for instance.

Since 1974, french government declared it illegal to adulterate national currency... but!

Due to world's famous Eloi Pernet's craftsmanship, Eloi was allowed to replicate the coins.

These days, Louis, Napoleon, Céres, Hercule, Semeuse and most of foreign currency's coin-knives  belong to replicas.

How to recognize a replica?

Difficult to recognize a replica.

On a real  and old coin-knife: the maker's mark is Eloi LP into the diamond, wild boar is often used as stamp for silver, on the edge of the coin, you still can easily read what's written ( Dieu protège la France...), the patina is never the same, blades are straight, files are convex.

On a replica, as new shining coin: the maker's mark is Ste EP with a little penknife into the diamond, wild boar sometimes replaced by minerva as stamp for silver, difficult to read anything on the edges or both half coin's text not aligned. Curved blades and concave files.

But you can also find real coins with Ste EP into the diamond, of course!

If you use your camera with macro function: the silver of the replica is quite pitted, the old silver is irregular with (micro) scratches.

Conclusion: No matter about real or replica.
We can find very very bad real coin-knives and wonderful replicas.... and vice versa :o) so make your mind and choose what you like.

Looking at your Eloi is great, but if you can ear a big noise when the tools snap back into the coin, it's scarcer than a nice coin.

How to be sure it's a real coin?

You can never be sure: sometimes one face belongs to a genuine coin and the reverse to a replica :o)))
